Bowl projections: Many see Army facing SMU in Fort Worth

Air Force hasn’t crept into any bowl projections yet, but pretty much every website has Army locked into a game in late December. Picking the Black Knights to face SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl seems to be the trendy pick.

Army is making a bowl game. Air Force could maybe make a bowl game. And Navy, well, they’re out, unfortunately.

As bowl projections continue to trickle in from various websites each week, we’ll round them up here for you to argue, discuss and debate them.

The Black Knights improved to 8-2 this week with a 31-13 win over FCS side Lafayette. The Falcons moved to 4-6 with a 42-24 victory over New Mexico.

Every website we checked this week has Army making a bowl game, but none of them featured Air Force. The Falcons will likely have to win out to make a bowl game. USA Today has the Falcons tagged as “almost out” in its latest projections.

Let’s see what the so-called experts around the internet have to say about these Service Academy teams playing in late December.

Takeaways

The trendy pick here is having Army face off against SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl. That should be a win for Army, considering the Mustangs just edged out Navy by a single point in overtime earlier this season. The Action Network is prematurely setting that line at Army -11.

The Cheez-It Bowl could be a pretty sweet gig for the Black Knights. Arizona seems like a nice place in the winter, and, you know, snacks (what’s the Cheez-It Bowl without an abundance of free Cheez-Its?).
