Army Football: The Black Knights look to continue their home win streak to 13 against Colgate

The Army Black Knights will look to win their 13th straight victory at home over the undefeated Colgate Raiders.

This has been an impressive season for the Army Black Knights who are 8-2 this season, but the Colgate Raiders are undefeated (9-0) and arguably the most challenging and dynamic team within the FCS conference.

While the Black Knights pulled off a relatively easy win last week against Lafayette, the game wasn’t without mistake. A few false start penalties significantly hindered Army’s opening drive. Uncharacteristically, the Black Knight’s didn’t see their first touchdown until the second quarter.

However in true Army fashion, when they did get in the groove, the Black Knights dominated Lafayette in time-of-possesion. Army was 12-of-13 on third down, which was the second most third down conversions for them in a single game in 2018.

This week, Army running back, Darnell Woolfolk, might just meet his match in Colgate running back, James Holland Jr. Holland Jr. has 899 rushing yards on the season, compared to Woolfolk’s 734. Army’s triple option, will have a comparable rushing opponent this Saturday.

Senior wide receiver, Owen Rockett, leads the Raiders with receptions this year with 28 for a total of 582 yards. The Raider’s passing offense slightly outweighs the Black Knights in terms of productivity, but clearly these two teams are built to run the ball.

Both team’s defenses have been strong this year. The Raiders aren’t too fond of letting their opponents get in the red zone. Colgate’s red zone is number one in the FCS. Army’s defense, on the other hand, is seventh in the country when it comes to stopping plays on third down.

The Army Black Knights will have a great opportunity to play against a strong rushing team in preparation for the Army-Navy game.
