High school football has been under way for a couple of weeks and we plan to provide you with periodic recruiting updates as it pertains to commits from each service academy. We know service academy recruiting is its own animal, and we will do our best to get a look at as many recruits and commits throughout the season as we can. Here’s a look at a couple notable recruits from each school and how they have fared thus far:

Air Force

J.D. Kolb - RB, McQueen HS, Reno, NV

Kolb rushed 13 times for 211 yards and four touchdowns in a 27-13 win for McQueen this week. In Kolb’s first game of the season he rushed for three touchdown on 18 carries for 287 yards. He will be a fun player for Falcons fans to watch all season long.

Jordan Blakely - ATH, Foothill HS, Henderson, NV

Two weeks ago Blakely returned the opening kick 88 yards enroute to a 42-0 win over Galena. Blakely scored another touchdown in week two against Palo Verde, and his game highlights include a little bit of everything including big blocks.

Army

Dedrick Wilson - QB, Kenedy HS, Kenedy, TX

Wilson finished 11/20 with one TD pass in a 31-14 loss to Karnes City Friday evening. Wilson also accounted for much of the Kenedy rushing game by running for 73 yards on only nine carries with a touchdown.

Cade Ballard - QB, Greeneville HS, Greeneville, TN

Ballard finished 8/9 passing with four touchdowns through less than two quarters of work in a 69-0 win over Union County. Last week, Ballard was 11/12 passing with a touchdown in another shutout win, 42-0, over Morristown-Hamblen West. He has looked impressive through two weeks so far this season.

Navy

Maasai Maynor - QB, St. Peters Prep, Jersey City, NJ

Maynor finished 10/16 with three touchdowns and also ran for 39 yards to account for nearly 200 total yards in a 35-6 win over Millville last week.

Tai Lavatai - QB, Creekside HS, St Johns, FL

Lavatai finished with 275 yards passing and a touchdown along with a rushing touchdown of his own in a 24-14 loss to Ridgeview HS. He has five passing touchdowns so far on the young season.

Yes, we know this update was quarterback heavy, but many of these players are recruited to the academies for their overall athleticism. Look no further than Navy’s use of Zach Abey and Malcolm Perry over the last two years.

We will look to show some defensive commit love in next week’s recap.
