The Air Force rifle team traveled to West Point, N.Y., for the annual President’s Trophy Matches against Army, Navy and the Coast Guard on Nov. 2 and walked away with their sixth consecutive title, keeping the Presidents Trophy at home in Colorado Springs. With a 13-point lead, Air Force swept Army, 4682-4669, beat Navy and the Coast Guard. Air Force won the small-bore match with a score of 2322. Navy was the winner of the air rifle match with a score of 2364.

Following the defense of the President’s Trophy, the next day the No. 4 nationally ranked Air Force rifle team won a quad match between the U.S. Coast Guard, No. 26 MIT and No. 28 John Jay College at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point. Air Force ended up sweeping the entire weekend, going a perfect 6-0. Heading into this season, West Virginia is ranked number one with Air Force coming in at four, Navy at seven and Army at eleven in the NCAA national rankings.

Actually, the Air Force Rifle team is coming off an outstanding season last year where they placed third overall nationally and won the National Championship in Air Rifle.
