Navy Midshipmen (3-2)

The Mids were back in action on December 6 in Annapolis taking on in-state foe Maryland (1-2). Navy dominated the state and dispatched the Terps 21-12, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Navy cruised to a 15-4 lead in the first six matches with wins from Logan Treaster, Casey Cobb, Cody Trybus, and Scout and Tanner Skidgel.

Maryland clawed their way back into the mix with three wins in a row to cut the lead to 15-12. The hero of the match proved to be freshman John Birchmeier, heavyweight, who sealed the victory with a pin over Parker Robinson to end the match 21-12.

Navy features two wrestlers in the InterMat top 20 by weightclass: Number 9 Tanner Skidgel at 165 lbs, and number 17 Spencer Carey at 174 lbs. The Midshipmen travel to Lock Haven on December 13 before competing in the Southern Scuffle on January 1.

Army Black Knights (4-1)

The Army Black Knights continued their dominant start to the season in the Patriot Open hosted by George Mason on December 7. Army took the team title with a score of 297.5 total points, blowing out second place Columbia (98.5 pts) and American finished third (95.5 pts).

Army crowned five individual champions for the day: Markus Hartman at 149, Cael McCormick at 165, Abdulrazzaq at 184, and Sullivan at heavyweight. Both the 197 lb final and heavyweight final featured Army on Army battles but the 197 lb matchup was not contested. Overall, ten Black Knights wrestlers reached the finals on the day.

The Black Knights boast three wrestlers in the InterMat top 20: No. 10 Cael McCormick at 165, No. 12 Ben Harvey at 174, and No. 13 Noah Stewart at 184.

Next up for Army is the Midlands Championships at Northwestern on December 29.

Air Force Falcons (0-2)

Air Force has been idle since placing tenth at the Navy Classic, and will not be back in action until January 1 for the Southern Scuffle. They will look to turn around a rocky start to the season and find their first win as a team.

While the team has zero wins, Air Force does feature one wrestler in the InterMat top 20: No. 20 Sidney Flores at 125 lbs.

Stay tuned for next week’s roundup that will only include Navy’s result against Lock Haven.
