Army athletics will soon have a new leader in Mike Buddie as first reported by WSPA News.

Buddie comes to West Point from Furman where he’s been serving as the athletics director since 2015. In first his three years with the Paladins he helped secure a leading 22 league championships and saw 12 teams qualify for NCAA tournament competition within SoCon.

A press conference is expected this week following the news of his move to be Army West Point’s new AD.

Buddie spent a bulk of his career at his alma mater, Wake Forest, where he served as the senior associate athletic director for administration and development. While studying at Wake he was the pitcher for the Demon Deacons and still holds a school record for his 138 single-season strikeouts in 1992.

Bringing a 5-Year MLB background to Army, Buddie was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 1992 MLB Draft, where he pitched in 87 games from 1998-2002.

In April, West Point named Dan McCarthy the interim director of athletics following the departure of Boo Corrigan.
